The year's work is done, the Crimbo party is over and everyone in the studio is well and truly mince-pie'ed out... we're calling a day on the 2018 working year, and what a year it's been! With the year effectively wrapped up and put to bed, I thought I'd take a look at some of Abstrakt's highlights from the last 12 months...

Our new work home

Following the Christmas break last year we came back to work in our new home - an old lace warehouse on Stoney Street. Moving into a much bigger studio, right in the heart of Nottingham’s Creative Quarter (with a much longer lease), was a big move for the agency. With plenty of space to house our growing team, shed-loads of character, fab new neighbours, and the bustle of Hockley on our doorstep, the new studio felt like home from day one. And the icing on the cake is that we get to bring our dogs to work every day!

2018 - it’s a wrap!

Although we miss the view over at Castle Gate, moving to Stoney Street was one of our best moves of 2018.

Growing as a team

When you work together as closely as we do, it’s important that it’s with people you love, on projects you love, in an environment you love. Our work family really is just that - a family - we work together, we play together, we support each other. This year we have grown stronger as a team and that is reflected in the year’s successes.

2018 - it’s a wrap!

We just wouldn’t be where we are without every single team member. We are looking forward to growing our family and welcoming new members into team Abstrakt next year.

Our vision in practice

Abstrakt is made up of a collective of extremely unique individuals - we are all very different but we have one shared vision - to do the best work of our career. This vision has underpinned everything we have done this year, from our approach, to our processes, to our delivery - in everything we do we remain customer focused and in the mindset of mattering.

2018 - it’s a wrap!

Easy to say I know, but the proof is in the pudding - in our annual client satisfaction survey we achieved ‘very satisfied’ or ‘over the moon’ for our year’s performance, across the board (the full survey will be published in January).

Great projects, new challenges

We are extremely fortunate to have worked on lots of exciting new projects, for both existing clients and new ones over the last 12 months. New projects bring new opportunities for us to learn and grow, and as a team of problem solvers who thrive on being challenged, it was wonderful to get stuck into so many new ones this year. As we have taken on new projects and new clients we have been careful to retain our status of being non-sector specific, because to us diversity and continuous learning is important.

Achieving Craft Partner status

We’ve been having our own little love affair with Craft CMS for a few years now and in October we were delighted to be recognised as an official Craft Partner. At the moment we are 1 of only 21 Craft Partners in the UK, and as a platform that we stand behind 100%, this is extremely exciting for us.

2018 - it’s a wrap!

In September our head of development Jamie, travelled solo to Berlin to attend Dot All 2018 - the Craft community's yearly international conference. Attending seminars and workshops by Craft’s founders Pixel and Tonic, and networking with the top Craft professionals from around the World, Jamie brought back with him a wealth of knowledge that started helping us on live projects immediately.

Introducing LAbstrakt

Not many people outside of the agency know, but for the last 18 months we have been quietly working on our own projects. These skunkwork projects have been designed to not only encourage learning and innovation but to fulfill a genuine need that we have identified in the market. We currently have 2 projects in development - these will be going into Beta testing in 2019 and we couldn’t be more excited so watch this space.

So that’s it - a whistle stop tour of Abstrakt’s 2018. It’s going to be hard to beat but we’ve got grand plans for 2019 and the foundations, team and hunger to make it happen - bring it on! So all that's left to say is Merry Christmas, enjoy the break and we'll see you on the other side!
