According to the International Business Times, Instagram is estimated to have brought in $1.53 billion in global mobile ad revenue in 2016! That’s a 144% increase year over year and would amount to 8.4% of Facebook’s global mobile ad revenue. There are currently over 8 million registered businesses using Instagram business profiles which shows the colossal power of app, and the importance of having Instagram for your business - whatever your business is, theres demand for it.

1. Instagram Live

Instagram live works by streaming real time videos via Instagram stories. Once the live video has ended, the videos disappear never to be seen again! 100 million users use the “stories” feature daily, publishing live events throughout the day, giving a behind the scenes insight.

Businesses make the most of the Instagram Live by hosting interactive Q&A sessions, a great way to interact with customers as the ‘live’ feature enables people to comment on the video in real time. It’s also a great way to broadcast a tutorial or demo of your products / services or just simply give a behind the scenes look at your business!

A little like Snapchat, the Instagram Stories only show your video or photo for 24 hours from posting. You can get creative and make the most of this feature by this adding text, emojis, hashtags, Boomerang’s or one of the filters, giving your brand a personal touch.

Post about everything and anything, repost, check for your brands hashtag and see what people are posting about your brand. Research shows that the best time to post on Instagram, for the most engagement is at 5pm on Wednesdays! But after managing your Instagram page for a few weeks and studying the statistics - you will soon find when your posts are popular and get the most engagement.

5. Use Video

Create content for Instagram Video so you can stay ahead-of-the-curve. It's a great way to show case your products and services through action videos, a 60 second clip to advertise, promote or simply raise your brand awareness. Research shows that adding video to an existing campaign drives higher favourability than campaigns with static photos only.

6. Get Creative, Be Fun

Don’t be afraid to try new things to gain more interest in your product or brand. If something doesn’t work, simply try something else! Unlike Facebook, Instagram only displays a limited amount of words before you have to click to expand and read the rest of the text. Keep your posts short, snappy, catchy to the point to ensure your message is getting read!

Studies also show that in March 2017, over 120 million Instagram users visited a website, got directions, called, emailed, or direct messaged to learn about a business based on an Instagram ad.

10. #Hashtag

Hashtags help Instagram users discover content and accounts to follow. Instagram posts with at least one hashtag average 12.6% more engagement than those without. The right hashtags will expose your brand to large and targeted audiences, making your page more discoverable on Instagram, you will then have a better chance of attracting new followers, getting more likes, and increasing overall engagement.

Hashtags categorise content on Instagram. By clicking on a hashtag you will be able to browse posts that other Instagram users have posted all in date order. By posting photos with hashtags you will be more discoverable. It’s vital to choose the right Instagram hashtags for your brand. Check out what hashtags your competitors and influencers are using and also be sure to ensure that you use related hashtags.
