Abstrakt is celebrating its 13th birthday this week. Co-founders Lauren and Marc take a little walk down memory lane and ponder what the agency will bring now it's a teenager.
This week, 13 years ago, Marc and I signed on the dotted line and Abstrakt was born. Things were a little different back then - we were pre-global financial crisis, smartphones didn’t exist, artwork was sent via ISDN, Web 2.0 was still a thing… and we were a bit fresher faced!
We started Abstrakt full of ideals driven by a desire to do things differently. A lot has happened in 13 years but that hasn’t changed - we strive every day to do the best work of our career. That’s what gets us out of bed every day and that’s what we’ve become renowned for.
We started as a team of 2 and focused on design for print. Today we span brand, digital design, web development, application development, digital marketing and illustration, as well as creating our own products. We’ve grown from 2 to 4 to 6 and in the last few weeks 7 (and it already feels as though Jamie has been here forever too). We’re unbelievably lucky to have a group of individuals that are incredibly talented and passionate about what they do and want to achieve, for themselves, for our clients and for the agency.
From studio to studio through the years...
The past 13 years have been all about creativity, collaboration, tenacity and plenty of grit. It hasn’t always been easy - we have invested a huge amount of blood, sweat and tears (literally) along the way. But it’s been full of laughter, success and joy too. It’s been one hell of a journey, but every step has been fun, challenging and deeply satisfying.
We feel truly blessed to have so many bright and ambitious clients who we really enjoy working with as well as our work family - a fantastic team of designers, developers and marketers who share our vision, our successes and our (it’s all of ours) agency.
Here’s to another 13 years - it might be unlucky for some but not for us!
Interesting? There’s plenty more where that came from…
