We’re big believers in peer testimonials supporting potential clients when making decisions on their CMS and the agency they choose to work with.

In this Q&A, we talk with Jordan Gardner, Marketing Manager at Spaciotempo, whom we recently worked with to design and build a website using Craft CMS. We get his insights on the process, collaboration, and outcome, and Jordan shares his experience working with our team and what it’s been like moving from WordPress to Craft CMS.

Whether you're considering a new website or want to learn more about what it's like to work with Abstrakt, this candid conversation offers valuable takeaways to help you make an informed decision from the very people we’re working with daily.

On working with Abstrakt

How would you describe your overall experience working with our team?

Marketing agencies can sometimes feel impersonal, but Abstrakt are the complete opposite.

Even sometimes during the planning and development phases, you might be unsure if an agency is the right fit for your company and project, but Abstrakt instil a natural confidence from the get-go. They are friendly and relaxed yet highly motivated and highly qualified for the job at hand.

Did anything in particular stand out to you? Either because it exceeded expectations or didn’t quite hit the mark?

It was the collaboration between your digital and creative people during the design phase that stands out to me. We challenged Abstrakt to unpack our feedback from previous drafts, understand our vision and turn it into something remarkable - no mean feat.

I remember as a marketing team we looked at version three of the design and collectively said “wow - they’ve nailed it.”

Did you feel that our team understood your needs and provided solutions that aligned with your business objectives?

Absolutely! We had to give Abstrakt quite a tight brief because of direct competitors within our own group. These businesses operate independently, so it was vitally important we stood apart.

The initial workshop planned by Abstrakt had a thorough agenda to ensure it covered every eventuality whilst allowing conversation to flow naturally, and this formed the red thread throughout the project, which both parties did a great job of sticking to.

Did the final product meet your vision?

Yes, visually we asked for a premium looking interface with sleek transitions and a subtle but present architectural feel. From a UX perspective, we wanted to simplify the navigation and untangle a previously complex lead capture process.

This combined, the site provides a natural reassurance that Spaciotempo are the leading temporary & semi-permanent building brand in the industry.

Is there anything we could have done better to add more value or support you and your team more fully?

It’s hard to be critical because the Abstrakt team were there to address any issues we had, resolving them in a timely manner. I’d like to add here that the Trello board for website snagging was super useful and a great go-between for client and agency alike.

On working with Craft CMS

How has your experience with Craft been so far? Have your expectations been met? In what ways has it exceeded or fallen short?

The ease with which you can create polished, engaging and SEO friendly landing pages is remarkable. In fact, site-wide everything looks so bespoke, yet it couldn’t be easier to manage in the back end. This is because the templated content blocks are already tailored to your brand and vision without the risk of breaking anything or developers having to step in.

The live preview mode in particular is such a simple but powerful feature, allowing you to catch your page updates on the right as you populate on the left. Whilst it can sometimes be a little buggy and refreshes after every amend, rather than when you want it to, it’s so much quicker to fully author a new page.

The ease with which you can create polished, engaging and SEO friendly landing pages is remarkable.

How does the way we built Craft for the Spaciotempo team compare to WordPress as a content management system?

Whilst WordPress is still the go-to for many companies, Craft takes all the things it does badly and instantly improves them. WordPress relies heavily on plugins and themes to achieve your frontend goals, which is time-consuming to find exactly what you are looking for and to implement.

Craft is far more lightweight and efficient, with a focus on scalability and seamless content population. It’s also so well-optimised for performance across different devices, without you having to give it a second thought.

Our lead capture forms also work far better than they did before, as the integration with our CRM HubSpot is simple but effective, with no more complicated third-party plugins.

How would you rate the ease of use of Craft CMS for any non-technical users on your team? And are there any specific areas/features where Craft works particularly well for you?

Despite the slight bugs mentioned above, the preview feature is fantastic for technical users, so it would be super easy to live edit content for novices.

The ‘shared content’ category also greatly helps improve speed and efficiency, allowing you to apply changes across multiple pages at the same time. It makes content updates much easier for where those blocks appear on your site, eliminating the need to remember where the same changes need to be applied. This proved to be a real useful feature as we built the site up, and is easy for beginners to understand and use too.
