Shopify for Craft CMS

3 min read

Want to seamlessly combine content and commerce? Shopify within Craft might be the ideal solution for your ecommerce website!

Craft CMS and Craft Commerce is an extraordinarily powerful combination, which allows online retailers to tie together content, commerce and community seamlessly. It’s a fantastic solution and one we have used on multiple ecommerce websites, including that of the UK’s leading baby food brand, Ella’s Kitchen.

Craft Commerce is fantastic, but it's not the industry leader in B2C ecommerce - that coveted spot is reserved for Shopify. Shopify powers millions of online stores has over 2,100,000 active users and has generated over $496 billion in online sales for its customers. It is the undisputed global king of ecommerce. But it can't handle content management very well, especially when the project has complex content requirements.

In late 2022 Craft introduced a (free) first-party Shopify integration, making it easier than ever to start selling products with Craft. By allowing Shopify within Craft, this integration leverages the powerful ecommerce features of Shopify AND the equally powerful content management features of Craft. It’s quite literally the best of both worlds!

With this solution all product, customer and order management and checkout/payment processes are handled by Shopify, but the products and purchase flows are pulled into Craft, so they are displayed in highly bespoke product page templates alongside rich content and referenced across the site, which is highly powerful in terms of converting browsers into shoppers.

Craft with Shopify is a particularly great option for businesses and brands who already have a Shopify ecommmerce website, but are frustrated by the lack of content management features.

The integration is powered by API so any changes you make to your product catalogue in Shopify are automatically reflected in your Craft product entries, so no need for double editing! Yes, you have 2 platforms; Craft for content, and Shopify for products and orders, but there is no need to duplicate your work.

Craft with Shopify is a particularly great option for businesses and brands who already have a Shopify ecommmerce website, but are frustrated by the lack of content management features. Your Shopify backend, along with your products, orders and customers can be maintained, but you can have a brand new content-driven, ecommerce website, with no limitations in terms of design and content management at all, along with a vastly improved authoring experience.

As an agency, we are committed to offering the optimum solution for each client, based on their exact needs. Whether it's straight Shopify, Craft with Shopify or Craft with Craft Commerce, we'll help find the right solution for you.
